PUMAS overcame Wolversdene A 6-4 in the top game this week in Division One of the Andover Table Tennis League thanks to three wins from Richard Fettes.

Wolversdene were forced to bring in Colin Sheppard, who has not played much after knee operations.

And Steve Harris also did not have his best night, only just holding off Ray Carver 9-11, 11-6, 5-11, 15-13, 12-14 and Shaun Carver 11-13, 11-7, 8-11, 11-8, 5-11.

He lost to Fettes 11-8, 11-6, 8-11, 11-9. Ray had to work very hard for his two wins, just edging out Colin Sheppard and Trevor Whitelock in five games, by winning the last 11-6 in each case.

Hanson C were well beaten by Hanson A 10-0, who maintained second place in the table. Three wins each there for Josh White, Steve Rollason and Peter Henderson ensured the victory.

The only opposition came from Jamie Smith, who took Josh to five games before faltering.

Wallop Wanderers lost 8-2 to Hanson B with Graham Audin winning three. A steadily improving Rob Macey again won two for Wanderers. In Division 2, Hanson D maintained top spot with a 9-1 win over Wolversdene B, with three victories each for Mike Cartridge and Chris Farrar. Roy Horner did his best for Wolversdene, just losing to Mike Cartridge 9-11, 7-11, 11-7, 11-1, 11-7, but his experience saw off Alex Powell 12-10, 11-9, 8-11, 8-11, 6-11, despite having a fall. 3D’s just managed a 6-4 win over Test Valley C with Zac Hine taking his usual three and confirming his position at the top of the averages for this division. It was a poor night for Jessie Yi, who was suffering eye strain so lost all three games.

Matt Carter could only win two. However, it was a good result for Test Valley with Sean O’Farrell getting two wins plus one each from Brendon Tasker and Seamus O’Farrell.
