Andover take local spoils at Winchester
1:52pm Wednesday 20th February 2013 in Andover
Winchester 2 Andover 4 .
With Andover having an unsettled second half of the season due to the recent bad weather, they were looking to gain some rhythm and start a run of results. Travelling with a squad of 13 Andover started brightly and were soon rewarded when they took the lead from a Jamie Hacker penalty corner. Spurred on by this the visitors doubled their lead when Sam Cowley crossed to Dan Allen who calmly slotted home. Andover prepared themselves for Winchester to come at them in the second half and had to defend initially, but after a tough period they struck again with Tom Burnham finishing with a fine reverse stick strike. The home team pulled a goal back but Andover scored again from another short corner, followed up by Allen to earn a well deserved three points, taking them up to ninth in the table. Man of the match was James Gigg and they now look ahead to their next game at home against Blandford, with the hope of turning the season around.
Andover Ladies 2 Basingstoke Ladies 0.
Andover were keen to regain their place at the top of Hampshire Division 1 and opened brightly, passing the ball well. Rhea Li, Maddy Loftus and Josie Steinson played particularly well inter-linking throughout the match. In the opening minutes centre back Liz Hacker went off injured but was ably replaced by Ellie Ingram, who played exceptionally well. Andover broke the deadlock when Jacqui West set up Laura Molloy who scored. Andover dominated but could not find the net until the second half when Molloy’s shot was deflected in by Ingram following a short corner.
