Eleven medals at Sarisbury for young Archers

Last weekend saw an unprecedented success for the juniors at Andover Archery Club.

Twelve junior archers attended the Talisman Shoot at Sarisbury, near Fareham, exclusively for U18's - 11 of whom achieved medal places.

Golds were achieved in the U18 category by Abbie Loader, Harry Welfare (recurve) and William Talmage (compound) who also took the award for best gold of the tournament.

Adam Portsmouth (recurve), Jamie Welfare (longbow) and Steffen Burgess (barebow) won gold in their U16 individual disciplines with Harry Larcombe (longbow) being awarded silver.

In the U14 category Tom Peck (longbow) won gold, Vicky Loader (recurve) took silver and Jamie Crockford (recurve) was awarded bronze, this being his first tournament.

Not content with this show of supreme skill in their sport, they also won the team gold and silver for the recurve event; Beatrice Talmage contributing to the silver at her first tournament. A special mention should go to Jenny Hannah who, due to an equipment failure got off to a bad start; despite this she was able to complete the round and achieve close to her personal best in her first event.

The success of the junior team at this event shows how vital and enthusiastic all the juniors have become following an injection of new members after a very successful summer of beginner sessions and open days held by the club.

All the members would like to congratulate the juniors on their outstanding performances and thank the coaches and helpers who give up their time to hone the skills of these young archers. All look forward to watching their progress in the coming outdoor season.
