Forward momentum is key to away victory

Chineham II 7 Andover III 22

ANDOVER took some time to get going but, once they decided to play in the opposition half, their forward strength really began to pay dividends, hooker Baxter striking several against the head.

From a penalty on the Chineham five metre line the forwards needed no second invitation to take full advantage, Craig Snook setting up an eight-man drive that allowed Tony Worle to dive over.

Eventually, another forward drive led to a period of pressure on the line and Baxter was able to finish off in some style from five metres out.

With half-time approaching, Snook took the ball over the try line, but the referee was unsighted and couldn’t confirm the grounding.

Undeterred, from the resulting scrum the pack put the home side into reverse for Worle to touch down for his second try.

Graham was able to convert and Andover changed ends with a 17-point advantage.

Not wanting to give the home side any momentum, a great break by impressive debutant Horne put McCabe into space and the winger made no mistake in the corner.

Chineham finally get on the scoreboard from a penalty, but Andover closed out for an impressive win.
