Pete Waterfield is refusing to rule out competing at a FIFTH Olympics.

Waterfield, a silver medallist at Athens 2004, may yet continue his partnership with Tom Daley at Rio 2016, writes Simon Walter.

The 10m synchro pair finished an agonising fourth at London 2012, but Waterfield believes they could yet challenge for an Olympic medal in Brazil.

Waterfield, 31, said: “Before the Olympics my aim was to get to the Commonwealth Games in Scotland in 2014 and maybe hang up my Speedos after that.

“I was happy with the idea of four Olympics and finishing at home in London, but it’s been crossing my mind that I should set my sights on Rio and now I’m thinking about 2016. “I’ll have to take it a step at a time, because, at my age, injuries are quite common for 10m divers.

“It’s an impact sport that involves hitting the water at 35mph every day and that takes its toll. I could get a major injury tomorrow – I’ve already had surgery on one shoulder and the other one’s been playing up. “But if I get to the Commonwealth Games and my body’s fine I will try and carry on. There’s no reason why I shouldn’t. I still love the sport and I’m very privileged to get paid to do something I love so I’ll continue for as long as I can.”
