The United States women's gymnastics team won the gold medal.

The silver medallists four years ago, won gold ahead of Russia with Romania claiming the bronze medal. Defending champions China were left distraught as they finished fourth by some margin.

Germany's Michael Jung added Olympic equestrian eventing gold to the world and European titles he also holds following Tuesday's action at Greenwich Park. Second for the silver medal was Sweden's Sara Algotsson Ostholt and another German - Sandra Auffarth - took bronze.

Algotsson Ostholt would have taken the gold but she had the last fence down and that enabled Jung to triumph.

US Army sergeant Vincent Hancock retained his Olympic title in the men's skeet. The 23-year-old added the shooting gold medal at London 2012 to the one he won four years ago at Beijing, becoming the first skeet shooter to win back-to-back titles.

Hancock also broke his own Olympic record, missing just two shots and firing a perfect 25 in the final, to register 148 points in the discipline which sees competitors fire at clay targets from seven different positions on the range.

Hancock finished two points ahead of Denmark's Anders Golding, who took silver.

Nasser Al-Attiya of Qatar won the bronze after a shoot-off with Russia's Valeriy Shomin, who had to be content with fourth on his 41st birthday.

France's Tony Estanguet claimed the gold medal in the canoe slalom, while China's Chen Ruolin and Wang Hao have won gold in the women's synchronised 10 metre platform.

Urska Zolnir of Slovenia has won gold in the women's under-63kg category in the judo with South Korea's Kim Jae-bum taking gold for the men at under-81kgs. Kazakhstan's Maiya Maneza has won gold in the women's 63kg category in the weightlifting.
