NICK Halstead enjoyed an impressive double podium finish as the Protyre Ginetta GT5 Challenge visited the legendary Zandvoort circuit in the Netherlands.

The driver from Andwell near Basingstoke, continued his improving form in his debut season of racing.

He twice come home third in the Am division and added a fourth place in the other race at the Dutch track.

Halstead’s results at the iconic venue, at which motorsport legends like Ayrton Senna, Sir Stirling Moss and James Hunt have previously won the Dutch Grand Prix, means he is third highest-placed Am driver in the one-make championship for Ginetta G40s.

Not only this, but with three overall top-20 finishes, it was also his highest-scoring weekend to date in the main championship for his Fox Motorsport team based in Maldon, Essex.

Andwell driver Halstead said: “I’m really pleased with the way the weekend’s gone. To stand on the podium twice at a circuit as demanding as Zandvoort is even better as I’ve never been here before.

He added: “I genuinely feel second place in the class was mine for the taking in race two because I’d got into a very good rhythm and was closing in on the car ahead of me. Unfortunately another car crashed and we finished under safety-car conditions, so I never got the chance to make my move. It’s been a very good team performance.”

GRDC+ continues at the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit on the weekend of August 5/6, while the GT5s head back into action a week later at Knockhill, Scotland on the British Touring Car Championship support bill.
