ROB Collard will head to his home track of Thruxton hoping to make it a hat-trick of podium finishes this season in the British Touring Car Championships this weekend.

The Hook racer has so far been on the podium and both Brands Hatch and Donington.

Now the Hampshire driver wants more success in front of a bumper crowd, which is sure to be rooting for their local hero.

Last season he had a great time at Thruxton as he finished second in the second race, which was book ended by two sixth places.

Collard said: “I always enjoy racing at Thruxton. I love the circuit and of course I always have great support.

“It is an old school circuit where if you make a mistake it is normally a big mistake, but it makes the racing really interesting.”

The Hook racer added: “I have high hopes that the BMW will do really well there again this year as I really want to move up the driver’s championship table.”

In his last outing at Donington, Collard took second place in race two of at the East Midlands circuit.

In the opening race, the Hook driver started from 15th on the grid battling his way up to sixth including passing two cars on the final lap in his West Surrey Racing BMW.

Race three started in awful conditions with plenty of standing water on the track.

Collard was hit as he came down the old hairpin and when Matt Neal beached in the gravel the race was red flagged.

This meant the Hampshire driver could take his place back on the grid, but with a lot of suspension damage he produced a battling performance to finish 12th.

The results left Collard joint fourth in the driver’s championship 19 points behind the leader Tom Ingram.

Collard’s youngest son Jordan Collard will also be in action at Thruxton in the Ginetta Junior Championships, which is one of the support races to the BTCC.

All the BTCC races on Sunday, will be shown live on ITV4 from 11.15am to 6.20pm.
