BRAMLEY racing driver Max Walton celebrated his 21st birthday in the best possible style, with a double victory at Silverstone in the final rounds of the BMW Kumho Championships.

Qualifying on the first day of the weekend was a tense affair, with championship leader James Ford holding the fastest time for majority of the session.

However, Walton pulled out a pole position lap in the last few minutes, to take top spot on the grid.

Walton racing in D Class got a good start and was soon up racing with the Class CC cars with Ford battling behind them.

The pace looked good and Walton was flying setting the fastest laps of the race lap after lap.

He made a move on the CC car of Kevin Denwood and pushed on to catch the next car. Walton held the lead in his class and finished first collecting the fastest lap as well.

The second race of the weekend at the famous circuit used for Formula One was the following day.

Once again Walton got a great start and made up three places leaving Ford behind battling a CC car.

Walton was pulling away from the pack and was having a superb race, but after an A class car smashed into the pit wall the safety car was deployed and the field bunched up.

Then the rain came making the track very extremely slippery and Walton said: “I couldn’t see anything in front of me coming down the Hangar Straight.” In atrocious conditions Walton held his lead and secured another class win.

After the success the Bramley driver said: “It was an amazing moment to stand on the Silverstone Podium and receive the first place trophy where Lewis Hamilton collected his only a few months before”

The young racing driver in his rookie year achieved a total of nine first place wins, three seconds and three thirds.

He ended up finishing on 170 points, just three points behind the champion Ford, which was a superb achievement in his first year of racing.

This year Walton has supported his favourite charity by promoting awareness for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust on the side of his car and hopes to race again next season.
