BRAMLEY racing driver Max Walton enjoyed another double success in the BMW Kumho Tyre Championship this time at Brands Hatch.

For the 20-year-old, it erased the memory of a massive smash he had at the Kent circuit at the first corner in a single seater this time last year.

Putting this to the back of his mind, Walton qualified on pole in his class. This put him on the inside of the grid, but when the lights went off the car in front stalled and there was nowhere for the Bramley racer to go.

He had to wait until all the cars had passed, before he could pull out and start racing. He gradually he picked his way through the pack and helped by a safety car, the pack bunched up which meant Walton moved up to third in his class.

With four laps remaining the battle was now on. With a better exit out of the last corner, Walton managed to overtake both cars on the straight before the first corner. He then stayed there to take the race win.

In race two, Walton made a solid start and was up to third behind Guiseppe Callari and after being blocked for many laps he finally passed him.

Talking about the move after the race, Walton said: “I realised that Callari was breaking quite early on Paddock bend and decided on the following lap that was where I could overtake him.”

He then chased down class race leader James Ford. A few laps later, another driver from a different class had a bad exit out of Druids corner.

Ford went to the right of the car and Walton made a late braking opportunistic move up the inside and brilliantly overtook both cars in one move.

With two corners to go, Ford tried to fight back, but the Basingstoke driver held on to win.

Walton is next in action at the penultimate race of the championship at Snetterton over the weekend of September 10/11, before the finale at Silverstone over October 8/9.
