BRAMLEY racing driver Max Walton enjoyed a double success, as well as recording a new lap record at his home track Thruxton in the BMW Kumho Tyre Championship.

Building on his success in the British Schools Karting Championships whilst at The Hurst Community College, the 20-year-old continued his love of racing and last year obtained his MSA National A Car Racing License.

Having done a test day in a Ginetta GT5 Challenge race car at Donington. He found he was a quick as the instructor, he started the task of trying to get sponsorship, but to no avail.

Desperate to race he decided, with the help of TriggerAV, to buy a second hand race prepared BMW 318is and compete in the BMW Kumho Tyre Championship.

At his home track of Thruxton, Walton managed to secure pole position by six tenths of a second and then held first place for the 20 minute race duration to get a win.

This put him on pole for the second race, but championship leader James Ford was right on his tail.

The race changed leaders nearly every lap with two drivers side-by-side going into the last corner.

Walton managed to out brake his rival and entered the chicane just ahead, then it was a flat out to the finish line to claim the win.

Interviewed on the podium the Bramley driver said: “It was a close race for the full duration and that he hoped they’d given the public some good racing to watch."

The 20-year-old later found out he had also beaten the lap record for his Class D category.

Walton displays the Cystic Fibrosis logo on his car to promote awareness of this devastating life shortening illness which has a close and special meaning to him.

He is determined to continue his challenge to obtain sponsorship to be able to race in the British GT Championships in 2017 Walton is in action at Brands Hatch this weekend.
