FATHER and son Rob and Jordan Collard head to Brands Hatch this weekend, for the opening rounds of the British Touring Car Championship and the Ginetta Junior Championships.

Rob Collard will be hoping to repeat his winning start to the campaign at the same track last year and he also did the same in 2012.

The Hook racer is once again driving for West Surrey Racing and he feels his BMW will be once amongst the front runners in the championships and said: “I think you can pick which drivers will be in the top 10, but it will be lottery to decide in what order they will finish. I see no reason why I cannot come out on top if I have a consistent season.

“I was the top race winner last year for the team and having two very good young drivers in Sam Tordoff and Jack Goff is going to keep me on my toes.”

As well as Rob his youngest son Jordan will be in action at the Brands Hatch Indy track in the Ginetta Junior Championships and will be racing for TCR (Total Control Racing) Team.

Father Rob Collard is putting no pressure on his son and said: “It is going to be tough early on for him as he is in his first year in championship and is up against second and third year drivers.”

His 15-year-old son said: “The Ginetta Junior Championship is a great stepping stone to move from karting into car racing, I had a great time at the Ginetta scholarship and I am really looking forward to putting everything I learnt there into practice at Brands Hatch."

Collard’s older son Ricky Collard made his debut for the Carlin team in the BRDC Formula 4 Championship at Snetterton last weekend.

He just missed out on pole for the first race so started second on the grid came fourth in his first ever outing in this championship.

In race two he was fifth, when he was knocked off the track and failed to finish.

This meant he had to start from the back of the grid for the final race at the Norfolk track and produced an excellent drive to finish eighth.

this left him ninth in the overall standings and he is next in action at the Brands Hatch GP circuit on the weekend of April 16 and 17 # All Sunday’s BTCC races and the Ginetta Junior race will be shown live on ITV4 and the show starts at 10.15am.
