FATHER and son Rob and Ricky Collard will be hoping for a much better time when the British Touring Car and MSA Formula Championships arrives at Silverstone this weekend.

Hook’s Rob Collard failed to finish the last two races at Rockingham, while son Ricky crashed in qualifying and lost his lead in the drivers’ championship.

Rob Collard felt the trip to Rockingham was a complete disaster and three non-points finishes saw him slip to 10th in the drivers’ championship standings

Talking ahead of what is the penultimate meeting of the season he said: “Silverstone should be good for us as I want to forget Rockingham.

“We were always on the back foot from qualifying well down the field.”

Last year, the BTCC driver had a massive crash in his second race at Silverstone and ended up in hospital, so he will hope to finish all three races this time around, on a track where he claimed two podium finishes in 2012.

Teenager Ricky Collard will be hoping to turn the tables on his arch-rival Lando Norris at the Northamptonshire track.

At Rockingham, the Hook driver chalked up his fifth victory of the season, but in the other two races he had to battle his way from the back of the grid after a crash in qualifying and managed two eighth places.

He is currently 17 points behind Norris and with 25 points for a victory, the young Hook driver will be hoping he can regain top spot ahead of the final three races at Brands Hatch,

Talking about his son’s chances, Rob Collard said: “He likes racing at Silverstone so I think he will go well there. He needs to put in six solid races if he going to stand any chance of winning the title.”
