CHINEHAM saloon car racer Chris Mohan enjoyed a double class podium in his first-ever outing at Castle Coombe in the Maximumgroup.net VAG Trophy.

The 25-year-old used qualifying to get used to the circuit, and while the session was cut short after an accident, he was still able to put his car on the grid in 12th place, second in his class.

Race one saw the Chineham racer move his VW Golf Mk4 GTi up to ninth, before he dropped back a couple of places and ended up finishing 11th overall and second in his class.

In race two, an incident on the first lap left Mohan 16th, but he fought his way back to finish 11th overall and third in his class.

He is still third in the drivers’ championship after his double success and his next meeting is at Donington Park on the weekend of September 19 and 20.

In his previous outing at Snetterton, Mohan collected another two podiums.

Qualifying took place in the rain and the 25-year-old managed to put the car on the grid in 12th place overall and second in class B.

With dry conditions for the race one, the Golf GTi was soon under attack, but he held onto second in his class until late on in the race, having to settle for third spot in the end.

Mohan was on row 10 for race two, but a big crash on the opening lap resulted in him being forced to retire for safety reasons as one of the car doors could not be opened.

Fortunately, the steering and suspension were undamaged, so Mohan was able to compete in the final race.

From row nine and in very wet conditions, Mohan finished 12th overall and took an impressive second place in his class.
