BASINGSTOKE’s Graham Beale completed a winning double at the Gurston Down Speed Hillclimb’s 300th meeting last weekend.
He drove his 2.0t Ginetta G33 to victory on both days of racing in the over 2,000cc marque sports car class.
On Saturday, he beat Frome’s Tim Painter in his 3.6 Porsche 911 GT3 into second place and then, on Sunday, his closest rival was Steve Holley in his 5.2 TVR Griffith.
Hartley Wintney’s Piers Thynne also enjoyed victory in the roadgoing specialist production class in his turbocharged Westfield Megabusa last Sunday.
He beat Saturday’s winner, Adrian Lewis from Salisbury, to take the win.
Heavy showers made for changing conditions on the track and underfoot at Gurston Down, near Broad Chalke in Wiltshire, last weekend.
A good crowd braved the weather and witnessed some cracking motorsport action against the clock on the fast and sinuous 967-metre award-winning hillclimb course.
Helping out with the 300th meeting celebrations was British Touring Car Championship star Matt Neal as he entertained the crowds on Sunday in the Honda Racing/Synchro Motorsport Jazz, winning the Chairman’s Invitation class by three tenths from fellow Honda man Alyn James in the Synchro Civic.
The next event at Gurston Down is the British Hillclimb Championship on the weekend of May 24 and 25.
