HOOK’S Archie Hamilton heads to Le Mans this weekend in fine form after he finished second in his latest International GT Open race in Portugal.

Hamilton and his co-driver Diederick Sijthoff guided their GT2 Corvette C6 to their first podium of the season.

The Le Mans 24 Hour Race starts tomorrow. This is his second appearance in the race, which his grandfather Duncan Hamilton won in 1953.

The 23-year-old has already tested at the French track in his Ram Racing’s Ferrari 458 Italia.

The Hook driver had 74 laps in the car, posting a best lap of 3min 59.248sec.

He is part of a three-man team, along with Johnny Mowlem and Mark Patter-son and the trio will contest the LMGTE Am class.

This is his second time competing in the race. Last season his outing came to a premature end due to accident damage.

Le Mans is a special place for Hamilton due to the family connections and he said: “It is fantastic to drive at Le Mans and I can see why my grandfather was so addicted to racing here.”
