CHINEHAM racing driver Chris Mohan enjoyed a dream debut weekend in the SuperPro VAG Trophy as he finished on the podium in the final race of the day.

The 23-year-old had spent all summer building his VW Golf GTI ready for the championships and he finally got to race it at Snetterton in the season finale on the Norfolk circuit.

Mohan said: “I was financing the whole thing myself and it took a lot longer to get the car ready than I expected. We had no shakedown test or anything ahead of qualifying.

“I also had to learn the circuit as when I was last at Snetterton it was the 200 circuit.

“The plan for the weekend was to gather information in preparation for racing in the championship in 2014, but it went so much better.”

After a solid first outing where he finished 19th overall, Mohan came 12th in race two, which was third in his class, so he got his chance to climb onto the podium.

The Chineham racer, pictured, started his motor sport career in karts before driving saloon cars and was delighted with the result.

Mohan said: “This is the first time I have driven a turbo and to finish on the podium was a great achievement.

“It capped off a great weekend and I am now really looking forward to 2014.”

The ultimate aim for the driver is to make it all the way to the British Touring Car Championships.

Mohan has self funded his racing so far, but like all drivers is looking for marketing partners to help progress his career and to assist local businesses in marketing their products.
