BASINGSTOKE Bison top goal scorer Greg Chambers has signed for two more seasons with the Herd.

The Canadian hot-shot smashed Elite League club records by finishing just five short of the magic century of points this season.

The 25-year-old was among the top five forwards in the league, which would put him top of many a coach's shopping list this summer.

Bison head coach Ryan Aldridge has made sure the Toronto-born player stays wearing a Herd jersey.

With captain Brad Cruikshank already having signed a two-year deal, the Bison are building a good foundation for next season.

Aldridge said: "This is a huge signing for us. He was one of the players we wanted back after having such a good year for us.

"He has broken club records and got a sackful of points - and that was playing for a ninth-placed team.

"He is a real fan favourite, and I am looking forward to seeing what he can do for the Bison next season."

Chambers, equally delighted to be returning to Basingstoke, said: "I like the town, the fans and this is just a good fit for me. With new owner Tomas (Enerston) everything bodes well for next season.

"I have had a great year, the best of my pro career, helped by my line-mates Shanker (Brad Cruikshank) and Greg Owen. Shanker is already back, but Greg has hinted he wants to go to Europe so, hopefully, Ryan can find us another centreman who can also chip in with the points."

Chambers, who has British parents, will be in action for Great Britain later this month in the world championships in Austria, along with team-mate Owen. Greg Wood, who was named in the original party of 33, missed out, however.

On further signings, Aldridge admitted talks went well with all the members of last year's squad, including assistant coach Steve Thornton and, at the moment, no one has been ruled out from returning next season.
