THE BASINGSTOKE Bison got their New Year’s Eve party started early as they beat visiting league leaders Guildford Flames 5-2.
The Surrey side arrived in Basingstoke after winning their previous 13 games and took the lead thanks to Matt Towe.
However, the Bison hit back and goals from Joe Miller and Daniel Volrab saw them ahead at the first buzzer.
Two quick goals from Craig Tribe and Nicky Chinn saw the Herd move the score to 4-1, at which point Guildford called a time-out.
After that they piled on the pressure but the impressive Matt Colclough was only beaten once from Nathan Rempel.
The final period saw just one goal as Ollie Bronnimann made sure of the victory.
The Bison are next in action on the evening of January 2 in Peterborough and see Thursday’s Gazette for full match reports on both games.
