THE BASINGSTOKE Bison grabbed defeat from the jaws of victory as they led 2-0 and 5-2 before losing 6-5 after a penalty shoot-out to the visiting Telford Tigers.
The Herd started brightly with Jacob Heron and a short handed marker from Viktor Kubenko putting them firmly in the driving.
However, Telford hit back as Josh Bruce and Scott McKenzie tied the game at the first break.
The home side then looked to have won the contest with three goals in four minutes as Marcel Petran, Kubenko and Daniel Volrab all scored.
However, the final session saw the never say die Tigers reply with three of their own as Luke Brittle, Daniel Croft and McKenzie all netted.
The Bison players and fans thought they had won the game in overtime from Joe Miller, but referee Petr Popluhar never gave it.
So the game was decided on penalty shots with Telford’s Juraj Senko scoring the first even if he put the puck home with his second shot.
Miller then converted the final Bison shot, but Marek Hornak scored to give the bottom side victory.
