THE BASINGSTOKE Bison have pulled off a great signing scoop with the capture of top British forward Shaun Thompson.
The 22-year-old Brit is no stranger to Basingstoke having first arrived at the club as a teenager and went on to make over 100 appearances in a Bison jersey.
Last season he was their top scoring home grown player in the club’s final year in the Elite League scoring 17 times in a points tally of 40 points.
This season he has playing with the Hull Stingrays in the top flight, but has played before in the EPL for the Bracknell Bees where he was one of the top forwards in the league, scoring 53 times in 104 starts for the Bees.
A delighted Bison player/coach Steve Moria said: “He was the one guy that seriously felt would make us a better team. He is so competitive and has a great work ethic.
“He can play as either a centreman or winger. I was always impressed with him when we played against Bracknell.”
Thompson is also pleased to be returning south and said: “It's definitely great to be back in Basingstoke and to see the Bison fans again. It will be great to get back to winning ways and I'm hoping to help push the team towards winning a trophy this year.”
The forward will make his debut on Saturday as the Bison face the Sheffield Scimitars.
See Monday’s Gazette for a report on his debut game and his reaction to returning to Basingstoke.
