THE BASINGSTOKE Bison won the clash of the in-form teams on Saturday night as they beat the visiting Guildford Flames 4-3 - to end the Surrey side’s 10 game winning streak.
It was the visitors who struck first, as Martin Masa ended a swift counter to open the scoring at 3.40.
The Herd then levelled before the first buzzer, as Steve Moria found the unmarked Ondrej Lauko.
The Bison took the lead in the second period after Joe Ciccarello did all the spade work for Mindy Kieras to fire through a crowd of players.
The advantage was short lived as Guildford replied 37 seconds later, when Lukas Smital rifled home a shot.
However, the home side re-took the lead on the powerplay as Moria slotted in from close range from a Lauko pass.
That set up an exciting final session which saw Basingstoke extended their lead to 4-2 with the goal of the game.
This saw two former Guildford players combine, as a great pass from Ollie Bronnimann was superbly put away by Andy Hemmings.
Guildford kept themselves in the contest as Masa grabbed his second of the night with five minutes to go.
This set up a frantic finale, but Basingstoke held to make it seven wins in their last eight games.
