THE Basingstoke Bison have added even more offensive clout to their line-up for the coming ice hockey campaign with the signing of Slovakian forward Ondrej Lauko.
The 28-year-old is the Herd’s third import signing. He is new to this country and has an impressive pedigree which has seen him score more than 20 goals in his last four seasons.
Last year, the 5ft 10in forward was the leading goal scorer for top Polish side Naprzod Janow, hitting the net 23 times in 54 games and adding to that 26 assists.
An impressive stat is his plus 21 for the season, which means he is rarely on the ice when the opposition score, which will be another great benefit for the Bison.
Scored 21 times Last season was Lauko’s second in Poland, after he spent a year at KH Sanok, where he scored 21 times. Before that he played in his native Slovakia for VTJ Topolcalny.
Bison player/coach Steve Moria said: “I was looking to sign him at Slough mid-season a few years ago, so I am pleased to have got him this time.
“He skates well and does not mind the physical play. Everyone I have spoken to says he is a good offensive player.”
New forward Lauko said: “I am looking forward to coming to England and I had a couple of offers from EPL, but I have chosen to join Basingstoke.”
The capture of Lauko means the Herd now have only one import left to sign, which will be a defenceman.
