Ambitious Bison snap up Annetts

THE BASINGSTOKE Bison have completed their netminding pairing for the coming season with the signing of Tom Annetts from the Bracknell Bees.

The Reading-born goalie will join already signed Davey Lawrence as the last line of the Bison defence.

The 22-yer-old shot stopper had three shut-outs last season for the Bees and recorded an impressive 92.3 per cent save from over 1,000 minutes in goal.

The previous year, he played at Slough Jets with new Bison boss Steve Moria and collected two clean sheets that year.

Talking about another excellent addition to the Herd, Moria said: “Tom played well for me in Slough.

Last season he took his chance at Bracknell, when Gregg Rockman was injured and did a great job for them.

“I think it is important to have two good goalies, as I think it is tough for one guy to play ever game.”

Annetts started his career at Bracknell as a goalie at the age of eight and soon caught the eye, often playing up a couple of age groups.

He moved to Guildford to join their under-19 team and enjoyed back-to-back English Championships successes including one in a penalty shoot-out. He then moved up to the senior Guildford team, before spending a season at Slough and then back to first club Bracknell.

New Bison signing Annetts, pictured, said: “I am looking forward to coming to Basingstoke and I think one of the highlights of my career so far was being part of the Jets team that won the Play-Off finals in Coventry.

He added: “I have never played on the same team as Davey (Lawrence), but I have seen him play and he looked a solid goalie. I am sure the team will benefit in practice having two good goalies to shoot at.

“I know what my job is and I will do everything I can to help the Bison as I want to be part of a winning team.”
