THE BASINGSTOKE Bison's first visit to Newcastle proved fruitless, as they returned home beaten 6-3 on Sunday night.
The home side led 2-0 in the first period, thanks to powerplay goals from Ben Storey and Pavel Gomenyuk.
The second session got no better for the home side as Newcastle's captain David Longstaff hit a brace and Dean Holland added a fifth, before Greg Wood netted his first of the season and opened the Bison's account.
After the break, the Herd narrowed the lead to two goals as Brad Cruikshank and David Vychodil found the net.
The Bison pulled their netminder, but to no avail and Colin Shields hit the empty net in the final two minutes to complete the scoring.
