Another semi-final shoot-out, another loss.

We’ve had the edge over Manchester for most of the season but in previous games we’d been picking up points by capitalising on their errors or scoring on an odd man rush.

On Saturday night in Coventry I thought we really were the better side and a place in the finals was beckoning.

We had chances to score but didn’t take enough of them.

It was a thrilling, heart-breaking game to take part in. The atmosphere was electric, thanks in no small measure to the hundreds of Bison fans who have given us such wonderful support all season.

We knew you understood how we felt at the end of the game. Thank you for sharing that evening.

I hope that cup and play-off semi-finals and second place in the league are achievements that we can all take pride in.

For the players, it has been inspiring to see the support swell throughout the season and to experience the growing strength of the Bison family.

Last night we spent the evening together thinking about the season and presenting awards to the players.

My MVP award went to Alex Symonds, one of the most under-rated defenders in the league.

Joe Rand picked up the Players’ Player of the Year and the Supporters’ Player of the Year. Stevie Lyle won the Best British Player Award.

Greg Owen has played his last game in a Bison shirt, though he looks forward to pulling on his GB shirt in the forthcoming World Championships.

Greg, you know how highly regarded you are by all at Bison. Thank you for sharing your gifts so generously and so loyally. You’ve been a role model for all of us.

Time now to start planning for next season and to practice my penalty shots.

Have a great summer.

Doug.
