CAMERON Wynn could not hide his delight after finally breaking his scoring duck by netting his first ever senior goal for the Bison last Sunday.

The teenage forward and Queen Mary’s College student had scored for every other Basingstoke team from under-10s upwards and his goal against Swindon completed the set.

His strike produced the loudest cheer from a big Sunday night crowd who have waited all season to see the young forward hit the net.

Talking after the game, 18-year-old Wynn said: “It was a really great feeling to finally score and I had a few chances in the game before that one went in. I was not expecting to get the man-of-the-match and the fans were great afterwards all coming up and congratulating me. I now hope the team do well in the play-offs.”

For Wynn and Matt Selby this was their final game for the Bison this season as while the Herd face Swindon in the play-off quarter-finals, the two young Basingstoke players are in Estonia to play in the World Championships for Great Britain under-18s.

Their first game is against the host nation, who are newly promoted into Division 2A, today.

Tomorrow, the young Lions face relegated Hungary and then on Wednesday it is Lithuania before Romania the following day.

Great Britain’s final game in the five-team group is against Croatia on Saturday.

This is Wynn’s debut for GB, having played for England at under-14 and under-16 level.

He said: “I am really looking forward to pulling on the GB shirt and hearing the nation anthem.”

His parents are making the trip to Estonia to cheer him on and Bison fans will hope he can now carry on his scoring streak.

Wynn said: “We know it is going to a tough tournament, but we will hope to do well and a lot of these players have been playing together for England so that has to be a help.”

Last season GB finished third in their group, narrowly losing 3-2 to Romania, beating Croatia 6-0 and losing 7-3 to Lithuania in their first game.
