A MAGNIFICIENT seven assists from Paul Petts helped the Basingstoke Bison under-16s maintain top spot in South Two as they beat visiting Haringey 11-0 last Saturday.

The forward’s first helper came on the opening goal, scored by Hallam Wilson – and then Petts scored the second.

A 3-0 opening session was completed when Joel Venning netted from George O’Shea.

The second period saw five more goals from the home side, with Wilson netting the opener.

Matt Levy then hit a straight hat-trick, including two shorthanded goals in the space of 68 seconds, the first being assisted by Josh Richards.

Malik Adeniran-Adams made it 8-0 as Petts picked up his fourth assist of the period.

The final period saw three more Bison goals all scored by Wilson, taking his tally to five for the game.

Defenceman Jack Standing was the Bison’s man-of-the-match and Steven Ratcliff their spirit-of-the-game winner, while Charlie Hanley recorded a 12-shot shut-out.

Just two days earlier, the Young Herd won a close encounter 2-1 against visiting local rivals Bracknell Adeniran-Adams scored the opening goal at 23:11 and then man-of-the-match Wilson doubled the advantage at 35:41 assisted by Petts.

The Berkshire side opened their account in the final five minutes to set up a grandstand finish, but the Bison held on to maintain their 100 per cent record.

George O’Shea was the Herd’s spirit-of-the-game winner and the side are next in action away at Streatham on April 14, where victory will clinch them the league title.
