THE BASINGSTOKE Bison kept themselves in the fight for third spot in the English Premier League, after a comfortable 5-1 victory over the visiting Peterborough Phantoms on Saturday night.

The Herd got off to a great start as Ondrej Lauko scored in the opening three minutes and then man-of-the-match Mindy Kieras fired home a bullet from the blue line to make it 2-0.

The second session saw Ollie Bronnimann convert with a nice wrist shot at 22:48 and then Lauko’s second goal of the night took him to 100 league points for the season.

The final session saw Phantoms’ Callum Fowler dismissed for talking out of turn at referee Anthony Decaux, while Bison’s Tom Long also headed to the dressing room after he picked up a match for spearing.

Soon after, Lauko completed his hat-trick for the night, before Warren Tait deflected a James Morgan shot to complete the 5-1 scoreline.

The game also saw Tony Redmond become the first Basingstoke player to reach 400 league games for the club.
