BASINGSTOKE Gymnastic Club’s tumblers enjoyed great success at a British qualifier at Coventry and the club now has 17 tumblers travelling to the British Championships in Liverpool at the end of September.

Some of the club’s tumblers had already qualified for Liverpool, but they were added to by the tumblers listed below.

In the nine to 10 age group, Josh Matyear did an excellent job and finished with a silver medal.

In the 11 to 12 age group, Campbell Nugent took silver, after he landed his double tuck somersault with ease, while Owen Robinson won bronze and Maddie Gardiner finished fifth.

Megan Kelly won a silver in the 13 to 14 age group in what was her first competition after recovering from a foot injury she sustained in the World Age Group Championships last November.

After the disappointment of just missing out on selection for the World Age Group Championships last year, Yasmin Hamilton-Giles came back with a bang, finishing in third place despite being the youngest competitor in her age group.

Charlotte Gough had already qualified for the nationals, but used the event to put out a new run and finished ninth.

Calli Merrison was determined to land her double tuck somersault in a competition for the very first time, which she did it to take 10th place.

Louie Gardiner won gold in the 13 to 14 age group even though he was one of the youngest tumblers in his section. He completed a new run of back-to-back double somersaults.

Zac Middleton put out two new runs and landed both of them for a bronze medal.

He has already reached an exceptionally high level even though he has been with the club for less than a year.

Ryan Hopgood finished fifth in the 15 to 16 age group.

Cameron Jones took gold in the 17 plus section, which was a great achievement as he has only been tumbling for just over a year.

Connor Hamilton-Giles won bronze with a completely new move, a triple tuck somersault that saw him just put a hand down on landing, but he managed to stay on his feet.
