JUSTIN Rose’s hopes of winning his second US Open were dashed as he missed the cut after two rounds at Oakmont.

The former Robert May’s School pupil finished on eight over par, two shots away from playing on in the third round.

Severe storms on the opening day of the tournament saw Rose unable to start his first round.

The 2013 US Open champion finally got going on Friday and finished with a two over 72.

This was thanks to birdies on holes four and 13, which were cancelled out by bogeys at one, six, seven and 15.

His second round on Saturday proved to be even worse, as he carded a 76.

Rose, who missed the last two tournaments due to a back injury, reached the turn, one over, having had an eventful first nine holes as he struck birdies on the second, fourth and eighth holes, but on the down side he shipped four bogeys.

His next nine holes were to prove his downfall as he suffered five bogeys to miss the cut.
