A TRIO of north Hampshire golfers have qualified for the final stages of the Hampshire PGA Matchplay Championship.

Test Valley’s Ali Briggs, Tylney Park’s Ben Cummings and Hartley Wintney’s Sam Shipman will all travel to Hockley Golf Club for the knockout stages after coming through a qualifying competition held at Test Valley last month.

Playing on home soil, Test Valley professional Briggs led the way with an excellent three-under-par round of 68.

Four-over-par totals of 75 were enough to see Cummings and Shipman through to the last 16 of the event.

The competition now turns to matchplay, with four rounds taking place over the course of two days at Hockley later this month.

Briggs is up against a tough test in the first round, facing Gary Stubbington, who will be playing on home soil.

Cummings has been drawn against Shaun Hall (American Golf) and Shipman will play Richard Adams (South Winchester).
