JUSTIN Rose is in good form heading into this weekend's PGA Championship, the final major tournament of the year.

The north Hampshire golfer geared up for this weekend's event at Whistling Straits by finishing in a tie for third place at the World Golf Championships – Bridgestone Invitational.

Rose does not have a fantastic record at the PGA Championship. His best finish is a tie for third place in 2012, but he has only managed one other top-10 placing in 12 appearances and has missed the cut on five occasions.

His record at Whistling Straits is also poor. The PGA Championship was previously played at the Wisconsin course in 2004 and 2010, with Rose missing the cut on both occasions.

However, the 35-year-old showed decent form at last weekend's Bridgestone Invitational, especially during the third round, when he shot a seven-under-par total of 63 to move into a tie for the lead.

Being interviewed after that round, when asked if his form pointed towards a second major title, Rose replied: "Yes."

The 2013 US Open champion added: "At least I am knocking on that door a little bit again, which is nice."

An opening round of 67 (-3) set Rose up well for the week and while he was unable to record a single birdie on day two, carding 73 (+3), he hit back by going bogey-free during the third round to move to the top of the leaderboard.

Sadly for Rose, he couldn't complete the job on the final day, a closing round of 72 (+2) meaning the former Robert May's School pupil had to settle for a share of third place on -7, four shots behind winner Shane Lowry.

The result moved Rose up two places to sixth in the world rankings and up five places to seventh in the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup standings going into the PGA Championship.

The final major of the season gets under way later today, with Rose due to tee off at 7.35am (1.35pm BST) alongside American Brandt Snedeker and Australian Geoff Ogilvy. The trio begin their second round at 12.50pm (6.50pm BST) tomorrow.
