JAMES Wright produced an excellent closing round to win the Basingstoke Golf Club Championship for a fourth time.
The event was played over the course of two Sundays, with competitors playing 18 holes on each day.
Defending champion Lance Forster was tied for the lead with Andy Palmer at the halfway stage, after both shot opening rounds of 71 (+1).
Wright was a single stroke behind in third, with Peter Scott a further three shots behind in fourth thanks to a round of 75 (+5).
Playing conditions were much tougher for the second round a week later, but Wright made light of this to blow the rest of the field away with a level-par round of 70.
His 36-hole total of 142 (+2) saw Wright finish six shots clear of second-placed Scott, who also did well in difficult conditions during the second round, carding a three-over-par round of 73.
Forster was forced to settle for third place, a shot behind Scott, following a second round of 78 (+8). Rob Tidswell carded rounds of 76 (+6) and 75 (+5) to finish two strokes further back in fourth.
In addition to winning the Club Championship, four-handicapper Wright's nett total of 138 was also enough to win him the Club Handicap Championship, making it a double celebration for him.
