GOLF legend Neil Coles returns to Basingstoke tomorrow to play in Weybrook Park’s Pro-Am.

Coles, 80, represented Great Britain and Ireland eight times in the Ryder Cup and was inducted into the sport’s World Hall of Fame in 2000.

He was only the second man, after American Sam Snead, to win a professional golf tournament in six different decades, beginning in the 1950s.

Weybrook Park pro Steve Cox is thrilled that Coles is returning to the course, two years after his last visit.

He will be representing the Benross Golf team and a home member will have the honour of playing alongside the veteran.

Cox said: “It is fantastic for the club to have someone of his standing playing in the tournament as it will help increase our profile.

“Neil came a couple of years ago to play three holes with some members and they thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

“He was affable, friendly and personable. However, even at 80, I am sure he remains competitive. He can still hit the ball further than most of us.”

Sponsored by Promac Solutions, up to 32 teams will be taking part. Cox added: “The Pro-Am was re-introduced last year and we are looking forward to staging it again.”
