ANY faint chances Justin Rose had of a second US Open title in the space of the three years vanished after his third round of 72 at Chambers Bay.
This left him down in joint 25th on four-over par some eight shots behind the leaders Jason Day, Dustin Johnson, Branden Grace and Jordan Speith.
The north Hampshire golfer had hoped to close in on the leaders on Saturday, but was soon in trouble as he dropped a shot at the third and then double bogeyed hole five and dropped another shot on the next hole.
Rose pulled a shot back with a birdie at eight, but then proceeded lose another shot on the par-four 12th, before scoring birdies at 17 and 18.
The final round of the tournament is today.
