GOLFERS travelled from around the area to play at Hartley Wintney GC's Seniors Open.

Competitors had to battle adverse weather conditions, with rain making scoring difficult, but Beaconsfield's Bill Edmonds dealt with it best, collecting 39 points to win the Stableford event.

Gerald Wheel (Springs), was second on 37 points, with Jeffery Sedman (Royal Ascot) a further point back in third place.

Derek Graves, Ed Joinson and Dave Boardman shared the honour of being the top home golfer, with all three amassing 33 points.

Another Hartley player, Mike Trayford, may not have been in the reckoning at the end, but he still had a day to remember, using his eight-iron to record a hole-in-one at the 172-yard, par-three 14th.

Unsurprisingly, he won him the nearest the pin prize on the 14th. Graham Griffiths (Rowlands Castle) took the honours at the third, Nigel Prichard (Cams Hall) was closest at the ninth and home golfer Neil Bray won at the 17th.

John Fellows (Farnham Park) took the prize for the best scored recorded by a competitor aged 70 or over after amassing 35 points.

Steve Molley (Burnham Beeches) recorded the best score on the front nine, picking up 21 points, a score matched by Gary Kent (Springs) as he picked up the prize for the best back nine.

Overall winner Edmonds also claimed a share of the team prize, alongside Gerald Whell, Mike Penton and Joinson. Sedman, David Fisher, Phillip Taylor and Nigel Deacon (all Royal Ascot) finished second.
