TYLNEY Park professional Ben Cummings was left to rue a dropped shot at the penultimate hole after missing out on a place at the PGA Professional Championship by a stroke.

Cummings was one of several north Hampshire golfers who made the trip to the Lambourne Golf Club in Buckinghamshire, looking to qualify for the PGA Professional Championship.

After a bogey at the third, he hit back with birdies at the fourth and seventh to move under par, only to bogey eight and nine.

A further bogey at 11 set him back even more, but a birdie four at the par-five 12th had him on course for a qualifying spot at +1.

However, the Tylney Park man was unable to finish the job, carding a bogey four at the par-three 17th to slip to +2, one shot outside the top-12 place he needed to qualify.

He could still play at the prestigious event, which will be played at Burnham and Berrow Golf Club, in Somerset, next month, though he needs three qualified players to drop out in order to secure a spot.

It was a disappointing day for other north Hampshire golfers who made the trip. Weybrook Park’s Steve Cox finished 28th after a four-over-par 76, with Test Valley’s Alastair Briggs four shots back in 43rd.

Dummer’s David Holman carded 87 (+15), while Ryan Alexander of Sherfield Oaks chose not to submit his card.
