JUSTIN Rose will hunting his second title of the season at the BMW PGA Championship which starts at Wentworth today.

Last month, the 34-year-old won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and also chalked up an impressive second place at Augusta in the Masters.

The 2013 US Open winner has come close twice to winning the event on the West Course finishing second in 2007 and 2012.

He suffered the pain of losing in a play-off in 2007 to Anders Hansen and then was four shots behind Luke Donald five years later.

The north Hampshire golfing ace has always seen the European Tour’s flagship event as his home tournament, with Wentworth only a short trip up the A30 from his childhood home in Hook.

He arrived at the Surrey course on Monday and was watched on his first day of practice in the rain by his friend former England cricket star Kevin Pietersen.

The pair were both born in South Africa in 1980 and Pietersen was there as he continues to recover from an calf and Achilles injury he picked in his triple century for Surrey earlier this month.

Rose said: "This tournament is special to me as our family lived close to Wentworth and I used to watch it with dad.

"For that reason it is a trophy I really want to win and hopefully this year it will be my turn."

Last year, the former Robert May's School pupil could only manage a share of 25th place as he ended the tournament four-under-par, 10 shots behind winner Rory McIlroy, after failing to really hit top form at the event.

Rose’s first round was beset by weather delays and he bogeyed his first three holes. However, an eagle three at the par-five fourth got the 34-year-old back on track and he made a further five birdies on the way to an opening round of 70 (-2).

He made another slow start on day two, finding himself two-over-par through seven holes. He managed to get back to level par, but a bogey at the 15th saw him card 73 (+1), leaving him well off the pace going into the weekend.

Rose suffered mixed fortunes over the weekend. A run of four consecutive birdies seemed to have him back on track in the early stages of his third round, but he was unable to build on that, eventually carding 70 (-2), while five birdies and four bogeys saw him shoot 71 (-1) on the final day.

Rose will get his PGA Championship campaign under way at 1pm today, partnering Irishman Graeme McDowell and Danny Willett. The trio then tee off their second round at 8.35am tomorrow.
