BASINGSTOKE golfer Stuart Archibald was unable to pick up any world ranking points at the Dubai Open, but he did successfully make the cut on his first appearance on the Asian Tour.

Having been invited to play at the tournament, held at The Els Club, after some impressive displays on the MENA Tour, the 30-year-old was hoping to give his 2015 campaign an early shot in the arm by winning some world ranking points.

Archibald was unable to claim the top-15 finish needed to achieve this, but enjoyed a solid weekend in Dubai, surviving the cut and finishing in a tie for 60th place on +2.

The Worting man had an up-and-down opening round but birdies at two of his last three holes resulted in a score of 74 (+2), and things went even better on day two.

Archibald made five birdies on his way to a one-under-par round of 71, a score that saw him beat the cut by one shot.

He was unable to work his way up the leaderboard over the weekend, rounds of 73 (+1) and 74 (+2) resulting in him finishing 60th, but he enjoyed his maiden appearance on the Asian Tour.

“I was pleased to make the cut,” he said. “I just wish I had my A game rather than a C+ game.

“I’d like to thank the MENA Tour and Dubai Open for an amazing week. It’s been a highlight of 2014 for sure.”
