JUSTIN Rose claimed a top-10 finish in his first event of the 2014-15 season, coming sixth at the Hero World Challenge in Florida.

The 34-year-old from Hook went on a roller-coaster ride over the course of the first two days at Isleworth. Having birdied the opening hole in the first round, he made a triple-bogey six at the par-three second.

He hit back immediately with an eagle three at hole three, only to hand both of those shots back at the par-three fifth. He settled down after this, with birdies at 12 and 16 seeing him card a level-par round of 72.

The fun continued on day two as Rose birdied two of the first three holes but found himself one-over-par after a bogey at four and a double-bogey at the next. However, he then went on an outstanding run, making birdies at nine of the remaining 13 holes to card an eight-under-par round of 64 and put himself in contention.

By those standards, his final two rounds were a little boring. Four birdies and two bogeys saw the former Robert May’s School pupil sign for a round of 70 (-2), leaving him fifth on the leaderboard, while a final round of 71 (-1) saw him slip a place to sixth in the final standings on -11, 15 shots behind winner Jordan Spieth.
