A TEAM from Easton and Martyr Worthy Cricket Club won Test Valley Golf Club’s third annual charity day.

More than £4,500 was raised Macmillan Cancer Support , while the quality of golf on display from the winning team during the Texas Scramble competition was exceptional.

Ben Stanbrough, Dave Ross , Kev Stares and Peter Tapper managed 14 consecutive birdies before making par at the last four holes to shoot a 16.5-under-par total of 54.5.

John Branford, David Branford, Alec McCloskey and Tom Foreman were second with 56.9, while Eddie Martin and Ben Wilkinson won the nearest the pin prizes, with Peter Tapper and Gary Oliver claiming the longest drives.

The golf was followed by a successful auction, which contributed significantly to the overall sum raised.

Alice Dewsnap-Smith, fundraising manager for Macmillan in Hampshire, said: “We are very grateful to organiser Trevor Foreman and everyone who took part.

“The money raised will help us be there for someone with cancer when they need us most, by funding vital services that support not only the people affected by cancer, but their family, friends and loved ones.”
