FORMER Sherfield Oaks professional Jon Barnes claimed victory at Basingstoke Golf Club’s Captain’s Charity Pro-Am tournament.

The Oak Park golfer shot a five-under-par round of 65 to win by three shots from North Wilts’ Barry Forster. Four professionals – Martin Adams, Kevin Saunders, Philip Bryden and Bill Noble – were a shot further back in third after one-under-par rounds of 69.

Tylney Park’s Ben Cummings shot a three-over-par round of 73, with Weybrook Park’s Andrew Cloke a further two shots back. Home professional Danny Fisher shot 79 (+9).

The team event was won by Army Golf Club’s Scott Shibley, who partnered Gordon Wardrop, Mitch Carter and Alex Coulson to victory.

They beat the team of Adams, Ron Waller, Gerry Elward and Andy Pink into second on countback, with David Egan, Martin Naptin, Andy Palmer and Eddie Hubery a shot back in third.

The Hampshire PGA Patrons Young Professionals Championship was played at Weybrook Park and won by Chilworth’s Chris Gosney, who recorded a two-over-par total of 144 for two rounds to win by three shots. Adams (Swanmore) and Adam Hickling (Stoneham) shared second place, while Sherfield Oaks’ Ryan Alexander was ninth on +17.
