CAROLINE Cooper from Bishop Challoner Catholic Secondary School picked up the Secondary School award.

Cooper paid tribute to everyone at the school and said: "The success at the school is down to the pupils, parents and all the PE staff."

Challoner had one of their best sporting years in a long time in 2016 winning competitions at borough and county level.

This included representing Basingstoke at the county championships at both team and individual at table tennis.

The girls won the badminton competition, while the boys rugby squad won the Basingstoke Schools League, Hampshire Plate plus Hampshire 7s Bowl.

St Mary's Church of England School continued their domination of the Junior School award winning it for the fifth time in the last six years.

Last year again proved very successful for the Old Basing school as they finished top of the Basingstoke Schools medals table with 14 gold, 11 silver and four bronzes, and achieving silver in the School Games competition.

Amy Shore, PE co-ordinator at the school said: "It is nice to win this award for everyone at the school, it involves a lot of hard work. It is also nice to see our former pupils winning awards."
