With the weather now turning cooler I along with a couple of other local anglers will turn our attention to running water in the Salisbury area, last Sunday's club match on the River Avon at Amesbury put 37 anglers on the bank and although the weights will never compete with the carp puddles, catching grayling, dace, roach and chub lends itself to a more subtle approach to our sport.

Many of today's anglers have never fished a river and that's a sad indictment of modern fisherman.

There is a wealth of knowledge to be gleaned from just being in the countryside and studying nature.

My fishing education happened in the 1940’s and 1950’s when you could not buy instant success but you had to learn the skills over a period of time.
