GOLFERS have the chance to compete for a luxury holiday in South Africa during an event that will take place at Sherfield Oaks Golf Course.
The club, in Sherfield-on-Loddon, is hosting a Crown Golf Challenge "Race to South Africa" tournament this Friday.
The tournament features PowerPlay Golf, which is described as golf's version of Twenty20 cricket. It is played over nine holes, with each green having two flags. Players on a powerplay aim for the black flag, which is in a more difficult position, but carries extra rewards for birdies.
Challenge events are being held at 19 of the Crown Golf group's 33 UK clubs, with the golfer earning the most "PowerPlay Dollars" winning a golfing holiday for two adults to the Fancourt Hotel Country Club and Estate in George, South Africa.
The prize includes return flights, transfers to the resort, four nights' bed and breakfast and green fees at the venue.
The challenge will run until the end of April, with no limit to the number of events golfers can enter.
Players entering events will be among the first in the world to earn a PowerPlay Golf World Ranking, allowing them to see how well they rate against golfers in other countries.
Rob Gumbrell, general manager at Sherfield Oaks, is looking forward to the event.
"We are delighted to be hosting an event in the Crown Golf Challenge," he said. "PowerPlay Golf is great fun, but very competitive, and there is an amazing prize awaiting the eventual winner of the Race for South Africa' competition."
