GOLFER Justin Rose has put himself at the head of the field after the first round of the 2008 Masters at Augusta.

The world number nine finished four under after the first 18 holes, level with South Africa's Trevor Immelman.

This is the third time that Rose has led the Masters field after the first day, and he will be looking to maintain his form over the next three rounds in a bid to record his first victory in a major.

World number one Tiger Woods, who is after his fifth Masters title, recorded a level-par round of 72.

The highlight of the opening day's play was a hole-in-one from England's Ian Poulter (-2) at the par-three 16th.
