BASINGSTOKE and District Table Tennis League reigning champions St Peters A started where they left off last year with a 10-0 drubbing of KG B.
The home side only wrestled three games away from Sean Pickin, Peter Matthews and James Wright.
Winklebury beat Hannington 7-3 as Colin Wilkes maintained his flawless start to the season, assisted by two from John Golding, who beat Tony Brown 15-13 in the fifth. Brown made the scoreline more respectable, claiming two wins.
Newly promoted Minitec B were content in taking three matches from Queens A.
Arguably the shock of the season so far saw Minitec’s Gary Livingstone take out Tony Palaczky 11-7 in the fifth. Queens’ Marcel Ludwig was clinical, not dropping a game in his treble.
Alpha recorded a 9-1 win, this time against St Peters B, as Sander De Riemer and Paul Rattue won trebles and Peter Howell denied them a whitewash.
KG A beat Aldworth A 8-2, with Tony Aimes recording a fine treble, but the scoreline was closer than it suggests, as three five-game matches went the way of KG. Aldworth’s Matt Wilson was particularly unlucky not to take a win, losing 12-10 to Roger Biebly and 15-13 against Aimes in the final games. Jared Binner won both for the losers.
Richard Faulkner maintained his 100 per cent record as St Peters won a 6-4 battle with Portals.
Alpha beat Queens B 9-1 as Sav Thevendria caused an upset by beating Hector Castro in four games for Queens’ lone point.
There was no stopping Hannington, who won 10-0 against Queens C. Brown and Steve Rollanson were at their efficient best, dropping only one game.
In the Minitec derby, the A side beat their B counterparts 9-1, but Niall McGrane had to work very hard for his treble, being taking to five games by Denise Weller and then Tim Trebett. In fact, Weller was 10-6 up in the fifth but McGrane showed his class to beat the pair and take a well deserved treble. Trebett managed to beat Ian Short for his team’s single point.
