LUCY Wildash’s fine cross country form continued as she won the under-13 girls’ race at match four of the Hampshire League.
Basingstoke and Mid Hants athlete Wildash, pictured right, followed up her win at the Hampshire championships with another victory in Bournemouth, building up a lead before withstanding a late surge to claim victory by one second.
The result means she is now joint second in the individual aggregate standings.
Charlotte Chalwin maintained her fine record in Hampshire Cross Country League events with another victory.
She took the lead early on and had to battle hard to win the under-17 girls’ race by four seconds.
Chalwin has now won three out of four races in the league, finishing second in the other, meaning she has already wrapped up the aggregate title.
Jenny Helyar was fifth, helping Basingstoke to the team title.
Gemma Wildash was fourth in the under-15 girls’ race, leaving her sixth in the overall standings, while Overton Harrier Cath Wheeler was seventh in the veterans’ event.
There was more success for Overton veterans in the men’s event, with Sean Holmes finishing fifth and Mike Bliss sixth.
Basingstoke’s Brendon O’Connor was seventh in the boys’ under-17 race, a result that leaves him seventh in the aggregate standings, while helping the team to second place on the day. Jonty Davison was ninth in the under-15 boys’ race, mirroring his position overall.
Other Basingstoke and Mid Hants members were in action at the South East Indoor Championships, which took place at Lee Valley.
The Down Grange club had a total of three runners in the 400m but sadly neither Tom Syklemoore nor Jonathan Elderfield were able to make it through the heats, finishing third and fourth respectively. Mark Berridge was second in his heat and third in his semi-final but chose not to run in the final.
In the under-20 event, Matthew Lavopierre finished third in his heat and second in his semi-final to make the final, where he claimed the silver medal in a personal best time of 49.76sec.
Dave Ragan qualified for the final of the 800m after finishing second in his heat but could only claim sixth place, while there was a personal best performance by Elizabeth Butler-Clack in the under-15 penatathlon, the youngster wracking up 1,716 points.
