BASINGSTOKE Table Tennis League’s annual Closed Championship will be held on Saturday March 20 at Aldworth Science College and will feature both junior and senior players from the Basingstoke league.

Spectators are welcome and entrance is free.

Refreshments will be available and the fun starts at 9am.

The finals night will be held at Basingstoke Rugby Club on Tuesday March 23.

In Division One of the league, Minitec B were in action twice this week, losing 8-2 to Winklebury despite two great wins from Louis Conlon.

Later in the week, the same Minitec B side of Gary Livingstone, Ian Short and Conlon enjoyed a 7-3 success over Hannington.

Conlon led the way with a treble, supported in equal measure by his team- mates.

In the battle for second spot, Alpha Cars increased their lead over Winklebury as they demolished Oakley A 10-0.

St Peters B managed to scrape a few more points in their 7-3 defeat at KG.

With most games being won by only two or three points, it was nip and tuck all the way.

Patrick Garlick scored a fine maximum, with Dave Kimberley adding another two points and Sue Thompsett getting one.

The last match of the evening included a marathon 20-22 game, in which St Peters’ Simon Kiefer just managed to get the edge over Thompsett.
